The natural antibacterial, antiviral, diuretic, and antiseptic properties of Juniper (Juniperus communis) lend themselves well to treatment of a variety of internal and external conditions. Historically, it served as a treatment against infectious diseases as well as an aid for childbirth.

Natural Habitat

Juniper is an evergreen tree that grows wild throughout parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. Though there are many varieties of juniper, the most common in North America is the Juniperus communis. This particular tree grows up to 10 feet tall and has needle-like leaves and seed cones. The medicinal parts of the juniper tree are known as berries but are actually the dark blue-black scales that come from the cones. Scales from the male juniper ripen in 18 months while scales from the female juniper ripen within 2 to 3 years.

Health Benefits

Tea from juniper is prepared by one teaspoon finely chopped fruits and then pour a cup of boiling water , cover and leave for about ten minutes . You can drink one cup or two a day, or one shot on every two hours . The use should not be a long and continuous , because traces of turpentine in juniper can cause irritation and inflammation of the kidneys . Therefore, it is best to take tea every month , but only after one week .
For rejecting  sand and stones from the urinary tract, use tea prepared from two tablespoons of crushed fruit in half a liter of boiling water , put the lid on  in half an hour and strain . The tea should be drink seven days a month , every three hours one shot .
For abdominal cramps , mix equal parts of juniper , wormwood , yarrow and chamomile , and two to three teaspoons of this mixture pour 2-3 cups of boiling water , let stand for 10 minutes , strain and drink unsweetened .
For headache ,chop the fruit from juniper and put it on the wounded spot.
For problems with the liver or stomach , in the morning on an empty stomach take 3-5 fruits berries and chew well.
Against Diabetes .Use the juice of juniper ( diluted ) or unsweetened tea, made from the fruits of juniper ,stir 10 g of fruit berries , lady's mantle ( Alchemilla vulgaris ) , linseed , galega and blueberry leaf ,and mix everything with 3 tablespoons of this mixture and 0.5 liters of cold water , leave over night and the following day, warm and cook for 5 minutes ( after the water boils) , chill , strain and drink 1 cup before each meal ( unsweetened ) .
